Examples of 6:6 a requests to the employer

Below are three example of how it can look when a safety representative makes a request to the employer. This type of request is also called a 6:6 a report.

Example 1 - request regarding physical work environment shortcomings

Proposal according to 6 chapter 6 a § of the Work Environment Act regarding a request for work environment measures.

In my capacity as a safety representative, I have on several occasions noted a number of shortcomings in the work environment, which I also spoke to you about during a meeting on the XX.

With the support of 6 chapter 6 a § of the Work Environment Act, I request that the measures below be taken in order to achieve a satisfactory work environment:

  • The employees who are today sitting at conference/kitchen tables must, as soon as possible, have these exchanged for office desks. It is important that the equipment in the workplace is flexible and easy to adjust. It makes it easier to adapt the workplace to the individual and reduces the risk of musculoskeletal disorders.
  • Some employees are sitting in ordinary kitchen chairs. These should, as soon as possible, be replaced with office chairs with the possibility of adjusting the chair so that it is adapted to the individual.
  • The lighting in the premises is incorrectly situated, which means that the employees have glare on their computer screens. This means that they turn down the lighting in order to avoid the glare, which can in turn lead to eye problems and musculoskeletal disorders. You should hire occupational health services and specialist experts in the area to correct this.
  • Further, you should make sure that the employees have sufficient knowledge to prevent musculoskeletal disorders.
  • The staff experience that it is very hot in the premises and that the air ’runs out’. You should hire occupational health care services and specialist experts to look at possible shortcomings in the ventilation.
  • You should allocate tasks in the organisation so that work environment management has an effect and works to prevent risks and achieve a satisfactory work environment. Furthermore, you and those who are allocated these tasks should have sufficient knowledge about work environment legislation.
  • Action plans with a timeframe must be made regarding the above measures, in cooperation with the employees.

See 2 chap. 1 §, 3 chap. 1 a, 2 a and 2 b of the Work Environment Act, 4, 6, 7, 8,10 and 12 §§ (AFS 2001:1) about systematic work environment management, 2, 3, 4, 5 and 7 §§ (AFS 1998:5) about work at a computer monitor, 2, 4, 5 and 6 §§ (AFS 1998:1) about musculoskeletal ergonomics as well as 12, 13, 18 and 31 §§ (AFS 2000:42) about the design of the workplace.

I would like notification before XX.

If I do not receive a satisfactory answer, I will turn to the Swedish Work Environment Authority and request that they take a position on the matter.

Example 2 - Request regarding psychosocial work environment shortcomings

Proposal according to 6 chapter 6 a § of the Work Environment Act regarding a request for a work environment measure.

There are conflicts of opinion and too little trust between manager and employee at the office in XX.

With the support of 6 chapter 6 a § of the Work Environment Act, I request that the measures below be taken in order to achieve a satisfactory work environment:

  • You should carry out a survey of the psychosocial work environment as well as thereafter make an action plan with a timeframe for how you will in the short and long term come to rights with the problem.
  • The surveying and action plan should be done in cooperation with the employees and with external specialist competence in the area.

See 2 chap. 1 §, 3 chap. 1 a and 2 a §§ Work Environment Act as well as 4, 8, 10 and 12 §§ (AFS 2001:1) about systematic work environment management.

I would like notification before XX.

If I do not receive a satisfactory answer, I will turn to the Swedish Work Environment Authority and request that they take a position on the matter.
